The specific premiere date for the much awaited, all-Asian cast adaptation of “Crazy Rich Asians”, from the novel of Kevin Kwan of the same title, is finally revealed – August 17, 2018.

To some people, particularly those who follow Chinese numerology, the date August 17 is significant primarily because of what the numbers represent in the culture.

For starters, August is the eighth month of the year and the number eight in Chinese numerology and superstition is considered the luckiest number, according to Lainey Gossip. Plus there is the date 17, which can also be looked at as 1 + 7 = 8. So there’s the second number eight in the release of “Crazy Rich Asians.”

The reason why 8 is very lucky in Chinese culture is because, phonetically, the word for that specific number has the same sound as the word “rich” or “fortune.”

Additionally, the year 2018 is also rather significant. With the reasoning above, phonetically, the word 18 somehow resembles the sound for the expression “will be rich.”

It makes one wonder if director Jon M. Chu, who was born from a Chinese family, used the practice of Feng Shui for “Crazy Rich Asians” release date.
