A new video shows how a man in China who previously set the record for being covered in bees the longest time set a new record for having the heaviest mantle of bees.
Ruan Liangming, of Fengxin County, broke the Guinness World record for “heaviest mantle of bees” on Italian TV show “Lo Show Dei Record.”
His “bee beard,” derived from a carnival act that may date back as far as the 19th century, weighed an astonishing 140 lb and 6.95 oz. Ruan used 60 queens placed on his body to attract the approximately 637,000 individual bees that made up his mantle.
Ruan told Guinness World Records: “The challenger must keep calm when dealing with bees. Bees will die once they sting you, so they usually avoid stinging unless they think you’re threatening them. If you notice bees are in an ‘unsteady’ mood, you need to figure out the reason quickly or stop the record attempt.”
