On on January 8, 1994, the day of the girl’s disappearance, Mingqing and his wife were reportedly busy accommodating a large crowd of customers who were buying at their fruit stall on a street in Chengdu. When they looked up to check on her, their daughter was already gone.
Mingqing immediately contacted the police so they could aid him in their search. He checked each of the city’s youth shelters and also wasted no time in putting up missing persons posters on every street corner. He and his wife spent the following years searching for her but sadly failed to find their beloved daughter.
Still, they never gave up hope that they’d find their child. Mingqing even became a taxi driver in 2015 in a desperate bid to canvas as large of an area as possible. He would ask each of his passengers any potential information that could lead to the location of his lost daughter, giving them a card with information about his daughter and telling them to share it on WeChat.
By some fortunate twists of fate, his efforts eventually bore fruit. After handing out his cards to about 5,000 passengers, his plight began catching people’s attention and even making headlines all over China just a year ago.
In an interview, an emotional Mingqing expressed his ultimate wish: “My biggest wish right now is that someday my daughter will sit down in my car, and shout ‘Dad!’”
When asked what he would like to say to his beloved daughter, he lamented, “I’m sorry, Daddy didn’t live up to his responsibilities as a father.”
Fortunately, all hope is not lost — Mingqing’s wish will soon come true. According to The Cover (via Shanghaiist), it was reported that a 27-year-old woman named Kang Ying came across a social media post documenting Mingqing’s quest to find his daughter.
Kang, who was living in the northeastern city of Panshi in Jilin province, thought that he could be her long lost father. After reaching out to Mingqing, they immediately underwent a DNA test with the help of police.
On Sunday, the DNA test results confirmed that Kang was in fact Wang Qifeng, the daughter who went missing 24 years ago. Kang, who had reportedly been told that she was adopted, lamented how she grew up in Sichuan town, merely 20 kilometers away from her birth parents. She was told by her adoptive parents that she was found on the side of the road in Chengdu as a child.
“The whole world said that I don’t have a mother, but I do have one!” Kang told reporters after arriving in Chengdu on Tuesday with her husband and daughter for the reunion
Kang’s first words to her parents were reportedly “Dad, Mom, I’ve come home!”
Watch the videos below for the magical moment the family was reunited.
After the reunion, they went back home for a family photo.
