Constance Wu Learns to Pole Dance in Official ‘Hustlers’ Trailer

The first trailer for the highly anticipated film “Hustlers” has finally dropped, showcasing its star studded cast including Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Cardi B, Lizzo, and Constance Wu.
Set to the upbeat tune of “Money” by Cardi B, the trailer opens with Lopez’s character Ramona teaching Wu’s character Destiny the basics of pole dancing.
While official details about Wu’s character are still relatively unknown, the trailer portrays Destiny as a single mother and stripper in the late 2000s in New York City. Following the financial crisis that shook Wall Street, she is struggling to make ends meet while caring for her grandmother and her daughter on a meager income.
“I just want to take care of my grandma,” Wu’s character says. “Maybe go shopping every once in a while.”
The female heist movie follows a crew of strip-club employees who plan to exact their revenge on their Wall Street clients by scamming the unsuspecting and inebriated men.
“These Wall Street guys, you see what they did to this country?” Ramona says to Destiny. “They stole from everybody. Hardworking people lost everything and not one of these douchebags went to jail.”
The dramatic plot line is based on a real-life story featured in New York magazine, titled “The Hustlers at Scores”, a so-called “modern Robin Hood story” about a group of strip club employees who collectively devised a plan to take tens of thousands of dollars from their affluent Wall Street clientele.
The cast also features Madeline Brewer from “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Julia Stiles from the rom-com classic “10 Things I Hate About You”, and singer-songwriter Usher.
“The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture,” director Lorene Scafaria told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty, and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world.”
“Hustlers” is expected to hit theaters on September 13, 2019.
