A woman attempted to take her own life by jumping off a bridge and into a river near Fuyang in Anhui Province, China, but her plan was foiled when her clothing simply refused to let her drown.
While emergency response teams already made their way to the scene of the incident, the woman stubbornly declined their help and refused to be rescued.
Firefighters were then forced to drag her out of the river’s ice-cold waters and send her straight to the hospital. The Chinese woman reportedly wanted to drown herself due to problems stemming from a family dispute, according to Shanghaiist.
Regardless of the woman’s intentions, her clothing clearly disagreed with her decision since the thick, puffy cotton padding on her winter getup kept the suicidal girl afloat.
Meanwhile, suicide attempts stemming from family issues aren’t so uncommon in China, even when it involves petty concerns.
Late last month, an unidentified 47-year-old mother in Henan Province tried to end her life by jumping into a river because she couldn’t accept the short height of her son’s bride. The father became too emotional and tried to join the mother in her suicide as their son followed to save him.
