A minor accident devastated one Chinese teenager after he learned how much he needed to pay to repair a side mirror on a Bentley.
The unnamed 15-year-old boy who was riding his scooter on his way home from school reportedly smashed into a Bentley car parked by a roadside in Zhengzhou, Henan Province.
The boy fell off his motorized scooter as he hit the Bentley’s side-view mirror, which was shattered from the impact, according to NetEase (via Shanghaiist).
The owner of the car then got out of the vehicle and confronted the boy. After asking for the phone number of the teenager’s dad, the man told the boy that the cost of the damaged side-view mirror could be between 30,000 to 40,000 yuan ($4,350- $5,800) to replace. He also said that the car should be repaired as quickly as possible.
The Bentley then drove off, leaving the boy shaken by the episode. Unable to control his tears, the teenager cried, fearing how his father, who is a temporary worker in the city, would react to the situation.
A few moments later, his father called him and advised him not to worry about the accident and let him handle the issue with the Bentley owner. After composing himself, the boy rode his scooter to go back home.
After the photos of the crying boy went viral on social media, netizens weighed in on the issue.
“I hope the Bentley owner can take pity on this kid and just give him a lesson. Of course, he’s well within his rights to want compensation, I just hope he goes easy on him,” a netizen wrote.
“Whether you cry or not, it’s still a mistake. This little guy learned a valuable lesson on the road about growing up,” another Weibo user said.
