Heartthrob Chinese Olympic Swimmer Ning Zetao Retires
By Leanna Chan
Competitive Chinese swimmer Ning Zetao, who competed in the 2016 Olympics and made a big splash with his dashing good looks, has announced he will be swimming into open waters and retiring.
Ning made the announcement on Weibo today, according to Shanghaiist.
“The way to success is never easy, push yourself and DO NOT SETTLE,” Ning told his fans.
Ning took home gold in 2015 in the 100m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Kazan.
However, Ning was kicked off the Chinese national team in 2017 after accepting endorsement deals from competing brands, according to the report.
Ning began swimming as early as age eight and began his career with the Chinese Navy Swimming Team when he was 14.
Known affectionately as “Baozi” by his friends, fans, and teammates, it is unclear what is in store next for the 6″3 25-year-old swimmer. What we do know is, on or off the pool, he’s dived deep into the hearts of many.
