Chinese Man Suffers the Worst Mosquito Bite of All Time

A 30-year-old man named Zhang from Jiangsu, China is still suffering from what looks like one of the worst mosquito bites of all time months afterward.

Zhang said he clearly remembers being bitten while working a night shift on May 26 at the printing house where he’s employed.

Like most who can’t resist touching the bite when it itches, he squeezed and scratched the area before it began swelling up until his entire face was so puffy he could barely see.

When he went to the local hospital, doctors were baffled. On June 15, after catching a fever, Zhang was sent to Luoyang Dongfang Hospital in Henan Province, where he was diagnosed with scleroderma, a rare autoimmune condition that causes the immune system to attack the body’s skin, causing it to become hard and thick.

When tests showed that his internal organs were functioning properly and his blood tests came back clean, doctors gave him as clean a bill of health as possible.

While that one mosquito bite probably triggered the condition and put him through weeks of puffy-faced hell, in the end, doctors basically just told him to ice his face to stop the swelling.
