A medical student from Jinzhou in Liaoning Province, China is earning praise online after saving an elderly man who collapsed and lost consciousness on a train station platform.
The student, identified as Ding Hui, is a medical student at Jinzhou Medical University. She was reportedly waiting for her train home at the Jinzhou South Railway Station when she heard about the incident.
The unidentified man, who reportedly suffers from a heart condition, collapsed on the train platform as bystanders came to his aid.
Staff at the station then used the PA system to ask for medical assistance, according to the South China Morning Post.
In the viral clip, Ding can be seen performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the 81-year-old man and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before regaining consciousness 10 minutes later.
“It is our duty as medical staff to rescue those who are in danger,” she told the media.
The woman remained with the elderly man until the paramedics arrived to look after him, which made her miss her train home.
As a thank you, his son offered to give the sophomore student 2,000 yuan ($295) for her heroic deed, but she turned down the offer, CGTN reported.
“If it weren’t for her, my dad would’ve been gone… She wouldn’t accept the money and wouldn’t leave her name. We only found her again when the video was posted online,” the son told The Paper.
The train station also sent a letter to Ding’s university to praise the student for her actions.
