Chinese Maid Of Honor Dies After Being Pressured Into Drinking Too Much Alcohol

A Chinese maid of honor lost her life on Sunday evening after being pressured to drink far too much alcohol during a wedding after-party in Wenchang City, China.
According to People’s Daily Online (via Daily Mail), the 28-year-old woman, identified only by her surname Yang, died after choking on her own vomit after being pressured to consume a large number of hard alcoholic drinks at a wedding on September 11.
The police report said that she had already been heavily drinking when a couple of men at her table egged her on to drink more Baijiu, a strong, hard Chinese liquor.
The video clip showed the men surrounding Yang, smiling and watching excitedly as she drank a large glass of the liquor in one go.
Shortly after, the woman was seen struggling on the floor as the men watched and laughed before she was pushed toward a trolley. Unable to walk by herself, the men assisted by holding her up, but laughing along as they did.
Doctors at the Wenchang City People’s Hospital later revealed that Yang was unconscious and no longer breathing at that point.
Yang was reportedly taken to the hospital at midnight and was pronounced dead, 40 minutes after being admitted. According to the doctors, the woman died of “alcohol poisoning leading to vomit blocking the airway.”
It is a common tradition during Chinese weddings that the best man and the maid of honor drink some alcohol whenever guests toast the bride and groom. The bridesmaid apparently had consumed too much Baijiu that day.
