At 70 years old, one old grandma from China should be settled in her home rather than working under the scorching heat of the sun wearing a mascot costume.
Ying Peizhi, who comes from a town called Dezhou in China, has a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders. In order to pay her family’s medical bills, this 70-year-old grandma wears a Minnie Mouse costume and poses with tourists at a park in Shandong Province.
According to South China Morning Post, Peizhi who worked as a farmer, said that her husband is unable to work because he suffered from a heart disease and needs daily medications to keep him alive.
Most of their income came from her son and daughter-in-law who also did other jobs aside from working at the farm. Unfortunately, Peizhi’s daughter-in-law got hit by a car and remains in a coma at a hospital.
After the accident, Peizhi decided to pick up the Minnie Mouse costume that she got from a show business company. The grandma would go to the park and pose with tourists who pay her between $0.15 to $0.73 cents per photo.
Peizhi said that working as a mascot is far more difficult than working in the field, especially with kids who walk up and demand her to pose as they like.
But as heartbreaking as it seems, the 70-year-old grandma has no choice but to make ends meet.
