Videos and images released this week show a Chinese factory making new materials for President Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign with the slogan “Keep America Great!”
Jiahao Flag Co Ltd in Fuyang, a prefecture-level city in eastern China’s Anhui province, has been manufacturing the flags that suppliers will use to help promote Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, according to Reuters.
The factory has made about 90,000 banners since they started the project in March. According to manager Yao Yuanyuan, the number of orders during a low season is unusual, but she believes is the result of the trade war between the U.S. and China.
If they add more tariffs, sales will gradually decrease a little,” she said, according to AFP. “Our price will become too high and the sales will gradually drop. So we hope it doesn’t happen.”
The flags cost about $1 each, but the price could go up once the tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods imposed by the Trump administration hits China.
After Beijing retaliated, the Trump administration announced levies on an additional $200 billion worth of products and threatened to add more, targeting all of China’s exports to the U.S., including flags.
The factory is unsure if the buyer of the flags is affiliated with the official organizers of Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign.
Earlier this month, another flag-making company based in Zhejiang province was tapped to make campaign materials for Trump.
