People have taken to Chinese social media to express serious disapproval of how some of their own are behaving abroad.
An incident involving Chinese tourists at a hotel buffet in Chiang Mai, Thailand has gained a whirlwind of criticism after a video surfaced showing the diners greedily shoveling shrimp with their plates. It was circulated on Chinese social media before catching the attention of the state media.

People’s Daily sent a tweet to remark upon the poor manners of the group of Chinese tourists. After swarming the buffet line to grab an excessive amount of prawns, the diners left much of it uneaten.
A Chinese netizen from Fujian wrote:
“Us mainlanders act like locusts abroad, no matter where we go, not a blade of grass grows.”
