Chinese Buffet Hands Out Free Meals For National Holiday, Immediately Regrets It

A buffet restaurant in China gave free coupons away for China’s Golden Week holiday — and now they may never do it again.
The restaurant in Tongling gave away five days worth of coupons to local residents, resulting in absolute total chaos.
Photos of the incident have gone viral on Chinese social media.
Security guards tried to prevent a stampede and other likely disturbances, NetEase said.
There was plenty of leftover food too. Netizens commented (via Shanghaiist):
“Even though it’s free, there’s still so much food left over, the quality must not be good.”
“You would have to pay me to eat there.”
“Once you hear something is free, you rush out to get it no matter what, that is the Chinese national spirit.”
We can only imagine the horror that the restaurant’s staff went through. Unlimited coupons for unlimited food seems like a logical formula, but maybe not on a single day.
The moral of the story is, when we Asians get offered free stuff, you best believe we going to make the best of it!
Golden Week is a semi-annual 7-day national holiday in China, which was implemented in 2000.
