A woman in eastern China is being slammed on social media after trying to stop firefighters from breaking her car window to save her two-year-old son trapped inside the vehicle.
The incident took place in Jinhua, Zhejiang province on Monday, when the weather registered a warm 34 degrees Celsius (93.2 degrees Fahrenheit), according to Pear Video.
According to The Paper, the woman refused to let a team of firefighters break into her car, claiming that a locksmith is already on the way.
With the child’s safety in mind, the rescuers continued to convince her to let them break in and save the toddler from suffocation.
After some struggle, the woman eventually agreed to the firefighters’ plea.
As seen in the clip, the team removes the front passenger window, unlocks the door and retrieves the crying toddler, who emerges flushing and covered in sweat.
The clip immediately sparked outrage on Chinese social media, with netizens calling out the woman for valuing her car more than her son in a life-and-death situation.
Some even called her a “murderer.”
Weibo users commented:
“She doesn’t deserve to be a mother. This is murder!”
“She’s probably a stepmother, so she cares more about the car than the child.”
“This is also the kind of mother who sees money as more important than her child’s life.”
“In such a hot weather, I can only imagine how uncomfortable the child must have been.”
“Is this mom actually human? I wonder how her son reacts to this video when he sees it in the future.”
