Saving Chinatown. Restaurants and local businesses in this area have been suffering as far back as January before the pandemic reached New York. Many of them have closed down permanently. A gofundme was setup by @chinamac and @willlexham to support Chinatown businesses. It reached it’s goal of 10k thanks to everyone that contributed. That money went back into buying local food and goods to give out to residents and anyone that attended today. Goods were also purchased directly for businesses and delivered straight to them. Soon your favorite affordable dumpling spot will be gone. Your local bubble tea shop where you use to read and get work done in will disappear. Your favorite hole in the wall restaurant you like to dine in alone at after a long day of work will not exist. Your meals will triple in price. And Chinatown as you know it will be replaced by condos, parking lots and commercial real estate controlled by the ultra wealthy. Set up a food crawl with friends one weekend. Stop by that quirky thrift shop you’ve always walked by but never step foot in. Pick up some fresh fruit from the market to take home. Don’t let ignorant people pushing their belief of linking Chinatown and Asians to Covid deter you from visiting, karma will catch up to those racists one day. 146 photos unwatermarked in the download link in my profile. • “Anti-Asian Hate Crimes are on the rise, and we cannot let our community suffer in silence any longer,” Ham said. “We MUST realize that as diverse the Asian diaspora is, Asians are generally treated the same in our country. So.. WE MUST UNITE, STAND UP, AND FIGHT BACK”
  • Hong Lee (@mama_dolee), a woman who was harassed in a restaurant in LA last month, will also reportedly be present at the rally.
  • “Now is OUR time to SPEAK UP about OUR experiences with hatred, racism and injustice,” Lee wrote in her Instagram post. “I took a stance for my children, future grandchildren and OUR future generations so that they may NEVER accept this conduct as the norm.”

Unite against hate and racism: Mac and Ham organized the event as a way to stand up to racism and hate against Asian Americans.
