A 71-year-old grandmother in China is making jaws drop online with her impressive driving skills.
About their road trip: The grandmother, only known by the surname Xu, took her daughter and grandson on a journey from their home in Rizhao City, Shandong province, to the Xizang Autonomous Region, also known as Tibet, on July 3, according to her daughter.
The family shared numerous videos of their 3,664-kilometer (approximately 2,277 miles) journey on their Douyin channel.
Impressive skills: Netizens applauded Xu’s driving skills, with one social media user noting that she managed to navigate a “narrow mountain pass at an altitude of over 4,580 meters so easily.”
I suspect many younger individuals lack that kind of courage,” the netizen reportedly added.
First SUV and road trip: The trio went on their first road trip to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region just two months after the daughter bought her mother an SUV in May 2021. Many viewers reportedly expressed worry about whether Xu could handle the challenging road trip at the time.
Reassuring their followers, the daughter said that the “landscape was quite conducive to driving, and my mother is an experienced driver.” She also noted that her mother never suffered altitude sickness during the road trip.
Two decades of experience: Speaking to the media, Xu’s daughter said her mother, who had previously worked as a tractor driver, has been driving for “approximately 20 years” and got her driver’s license in her 50s.
