MGM and Warner Bros have just released the first trailer for the film adaptation of the best-selling novel, “The Sun is Also a Star” starring Charles Melton and Yara Shahidi.
The film takes place in modern-day New York where Natasha Kingsley, played by Grown-ish actress Yara Shahidi, and her Jamaican-native family are facing deportation in just 24 hours.
Fate brings Natasha to Daniel Bae, played by Riverdale actor Charles Melton, who pulls her to safety moments before she nearly wanders into oncoming traffic, lost in her thoughts.
Daniel, a son of Korean immigrants, challenges Natasha to allow him to prove that some things in life are simply meant to be. “What if I told you, I could get you to fall in love with me? Just give me a day,” he says.
And with just hours left on the clock until Natasha will be forced to leave the country, the star-crossed lovers set off on a romantic adventure across New York City.
The film is based on the YA novel, “The Sun is Also a Star” written by New York Times #1 best-selling author, Nicola Yoon. Yoon is also the writer behind the novel, “Everything, Everything” which was turned into a film adaptation in 2017, starring Amandla Stenberg.
Directed by Ry Russo-Young, “The Sun is Also a Star” is set to be released on May 17th, 2019.
