Christine Blasey Ford recently gave a heartfelt tribute to Chanel Miller, the author whose bestselling memoir “Know My Name” chronicled her personal ordeal as a sexual assault survivor.

Ford wrote a piece on Miller for Time magazine’s “100 Next List.” Patterned from its annual list of “100 Most Influential People,” the list consisted of 100 of this year’s rising stars.

Christine Blasey Ford recently gave a heartfelt tribute to Chanel Miller, the author whose bestselling memoir “Know My Name” chronicled her personal ordeal as a sexual assault victim.

Miller was sexually assaulted on the campus of Stanford University in 2015. Initially referred to as “Emily Doe” in court documents and in media reports, she testified against her assailant Brock Turner, who was eventually convicted of sexual assault.

In September 2019, Miller relinquished her anonymity and published a memoir entitled “Know My Name.” In her tribute published on Wednesday, Ford thanked Miller for advocating for sexual assault survivors and for her courageous testimony.

“Mark Twain wrote, ‘Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear.’ Chanel Miller embodied courage long before writing her powerfully moving book, ‘Know My Name,’” Ford wrote.

According to Ford, Miller’s bravery shone long before she began writing her book. She pointed out how during the high-profile trial in 2016, Miller effectively confronted her attacker with her powerful victim-impact court statement

“As ‘Emily Doe,’ she courageously testified against the man who sexually assaulted her and read her victim-impact statement in court, looking right at him. ‘You took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice, until today.’ And when her statement went viral, she gave millions of survivors their own ‘today,’ ” the Stanford University School of Medicine research psychologist continued.

Miller’s case generated controversy after Judge Aaron Persky gave Turner a lenient six-month jail sentence despite being found guilty. Miller’s statement at Turner’s sentencing went viral and made international headlines.

Ford, who testified before the Senate last year accusing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her, wrote that Miller has many great things ahead of her.

“An artist and writer and only 27 years old, Chanel will make many more beautiful things. She will make the world a better place, and she will make all of us a bit better,” Ford wrote.

“Chanel, you truly are everything you told us to be: ‘you are important, unquestionably, you are untouchable, you are beautiful, you are to be valued, respected, undeniably, every minute of every day, you are powerful and nobody can take that away from you.’ Chanel, we are with you. Thank you.”
