Frank Hong, a 15-year-old student, caught a woman on video berating employees at a Chinese supermarket near Toronto in a racist rant telling them to “GO BACK TO CHINA”.
In the video Hong posted to Facebook on Friday, a White woman riding an electric wheelchair can be heard yelling at multiple employees at a hot food counter at the Foody Mart in Scarborough, Ontario after she discovered that they didn’t speak English.
They should go back to China,” the woman said. “Go back to China! This is Canada.
As bystanders looked on in shock, others translated her racist rant to the employees as the woman says that not being able to speak English at work is illegal.
If they’re going to work here, it’s the law to know English,” she said.
However, according to Canada’s Official Languages Act, only employees at federal institutions are required to provide services in French or English.
But the woman refused to listen and continued on with her tirade, which lasted for 15-20 minutes, employees reported. The woman was at the supermarket to buy “rice and vegetables” and oddly enough seemingly continued to order food from the employees after her rant.
I put this video out to show the world that racism and xenophobia and bigotry still exists in Canada, and we really need to work together to stop it,” Hong told CTV Toronto on Sunday.
The video has since gone viral on Facebook, racking up more than 677,000 views and 6,000 reactions.
People were shocked and angry,” Hong told Daily Mail. “No employee who works so hard for so little money deserves this and no human being in the world deserves this.
No official complaints have been filed and police said they have not started an investigation into the incident.

If this happened on campus, Stanford should issue a clear public update and specific safety actions.

Agree. People need facts and process, not silence. The school should confirm what is being investigated.

Also important to separate verified details from rumors so this does not spiral online.

The death threat part is extremely serious. Hoping law enforcement and campus security are already involved.

This is where official reporting and support channels need to be visible and easy to access.

Can NextShark keep a timeline thread here as updates come in? That would help keep context in one place.
