A TikToker shared her experience as a U.K. woman in Singapore, explaining an encounter with a night jogger she mistook for a mugger through fits of laughter.
TikTok user @ilibabyyyy, a 22-year-old woman who moved from the U.K. to Singapore, was fighting tears of laughter in a recent video she uploaded to her account on Tuesday. Titled “British people shouldn’t live in Singapore !!,” ilibabyyyy shares how she screamed instinctively when she saw a man approaching her late at night.
“I’m in Singapore right now — 11 o’clock at night — and I’m just walking home,” she begins. “All of a sudden, I see this man’s shadow next to me and I scream, like, so loud in his ear, and he didn’t even bat an eyelid,” she details while trying not to laugh.
“I’m so used to the thought of: oh my god. It’s 11 o’clock at night. If I see a shadow someone is mugging me,” ilibabyyyy explains. Breaking down into a giggle, she says, “I’m just so used to, like, fight mode. I’m not even fighting. I flew. I screamed.”
Although the man “didn’t even bat an eyelid,” ilibabyyyy made sure to apologize to the jogger for her sudden reaction.
TikTok commenters jokingly empathized with the jogger.
“I think he ended up being more scared than you were 😂,” one user wrote.
“I’m pretty sure he’s traumatised now bestie 😭,” another commented.
Users from Singapore shared that humans are not the subject people should fear.
“As a woman who grew up in Singapore, I’m only afraid of ghosts and spirits when I’m out late,” a comment explained.
“nahh babe. its even worse if you see a shadow but there’s no one there,” another user said.
However, other commenters expressed understanding after experiencing both the U.K. and Singapore.
“Me as a Londoner who just moved back to Singapore aft 12 years and still have the fight mode on 24/7 💀💀💀,” a user sympathized.
Ilibabyyyy’s entertaining story quickly went viral, accumulating 381,000 views, 45,000 likes and 472 comments as of this writing.
