Bride Accidentally Kills 17 Trying to Poison Husband After Forced Marriage in Pakistan

A Pakistani woman’s botched attempt to poison the man she was recently forced to marry resulted in the inadvertent killing of 17 other people.

Police arrested the unnamed suspect last week in connection to the multiple deaths that shocked a remote village near the town of Ali Pur, in the Punjab Province of Pakistan, according to the Associated Press.

According to local district police chief Sohail Habib Tajak, the woman is now being questioned by local authorities to determine whether it was her or the man identified as her boyfriend who planned to poison her husband.

“This incident took place last week and our officers have made progress by arresting a woman and her lover in connection with this murder case, which was complicated and challenging for us,” Tajak was quoted as saying.

He also noted that the police are seeking to arrest all those involved in the woman’s murder plot against her husband.

Last week, she allegedly obtained a poisonous substance from her boyfriend and put some of it in milk intended for her husband, but for some reason, did not drink it. Her mother-in-law would later add the poisoned milk to a yogurt-based beverage she was making, which she eventually served to 27 of her relatives.

While all of them were rushed to a hospital, only 10 of them survived and are still being treated while the rest died from the poison. The woman was reportedly unhappy about her marriage in September and wanted to return to her parents’ home.

“I repeatedly asked my parents not to marry me against my will as my religion, Islam, also allows me to choose the man of my choice for marriage but my parents rejected all of my pleas and they married me to a relative,” the woman told reporters on Tuesday after her first court appearance.

She revealed that her relationship with her boyfriend continued even after her marriage and admitted that she only targeted her husband and expressed regret over the deaths of her husband’s relatives. She added that she already warned her parents that she would do anything just to get out of her marriage, but they still won’t let her divorce him.
