‘Who was that?’: Bretman Rock throws shade at Vanessa Hudgens
Filipino American beauty influencer and social media personality Bretman Rock shaded actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens for the second time during a red-carpet interview at the Hollywood premiere of the film “A Very Good Girl.”
The shade: In an interview with A*Pop on Oct. 4, the influencer was asked to participate in a “This or That” game, where he chooses his favorite Filipino American musicians. When he was asked to pick between Olivia Rodrigo or Vanessa Hudgens, he quickly answered, “Olivia Rodrigo.”
“I didn’t even hear the second name. Who was that?” Bretman said before pretending not to hear Hudgens’ name while repeating his answer, “Olivia Rodrigo?”
Not the first time: The incident comes after he previously criticized Hudgens for being the Philippines’ global tourism ambassador, noting her difficulty in pronouncing the province “Palawan.”
In an Instagram post uploaded in August, the 25-year-old shared photos of himself sipping a coconut at a beach in Palawan.
“Vanessa Hudgens is shaking,” a person commented, to which Bretman replied, “B*tch can’t even say Palawan.”
The influencer was referring to a video of Hudgens struggling to say the word “Palawan” when she visited the Philippines for the first time in March along with her Filipino mother and sister.
Global tourism ambassador: Hudgens, who was named a global tourism ambassador for the Philippines by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was invited to shoot a travel documentary, showcasing her exploration of her Filipino heritage.
However, many Filipinos suggested that Bretman should have the title instead. The influencer declined, hinting at an aversion to working with individuals who are pro-Marcos.
