A 6-year-old boy from Sairang, India has captured the hearts of netizens for attempting the save the life of a chick he accidentally ran over with his bike.
Derek Lalchhanhima was captured on camera arriving at the hospital carrying the lifeless chick in one hand and a 10-rupee bill ($0.14) in another, AsiaOne reported.
This young boy from Sairang, Mizoram, accidentally ran over his neighbour’s chicken. He took the chicken, ran to a nearby hospital and with all the money he had, asked for help,” Facebook user Sanga Says wrote in the viral social media post.
According to The News Mill, the boy’s father, Dhiraj Chhetri, was approached by his son while holding their neighbor’s dead chick as he begged them to take it to the hospital; however, he told the boy to go there by himself, and without a second thought, Derek went on his way with the chick and a 10-rupee bill.
The boy later came back home sobbing as the medical staff could not help him with his problem. Instead, he said that they only took pictures of him, which are now going viral online.
His father then explained to him that the chick was already dead and that the hospital would not be able to do anything to revive it.
Derek’s father, meanwhile, noted that he was surprised to see such true compassion in his son, and expressed that he did not expect him to go viral online. He did, however, acknowledge that Derek has “always been a rather unique kid.”
