Blackpink leader Jennie has announced the group’s planned return for their first album in nearly two years.
On Friday, March 4, a popular Korean YouTube channel called “The Game Caterers” aired an episode featuring several artists from YG Entertainment.
Artists present included Blackpink leader Jennie, Akmu’s Chanhyuk, Winner’s Jinu, Mino and Yoon, iKon’s Jay and Song, Sechskies’ Jiwon and Treasure’s Hyunsuk and Jihoon.
In the eighth episode of the show, the YG family proved their camaraderie by reacting to each others’ dance covers, cheering each other on in a series of original games and sending air hearts from across the room.
At the end of the episode, the game show’s hosts asked each YG member to make closing remarks, leading Jennie to announce that the K-pop girl group will be returning to work:
“Blackpink is also making a comeback soon. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but since I’m the only [Blackpink member] here, I’ll just say it,” she said with a laugh. “Please look forward to it. Thank you very much.”
Blackpink released their last album in 2020. Since then, all members have been working on solo projects: serving as fashion ambassadors to some of the topmost luxury brands, releasing solo music and acting in a K-drama.
Winner’s Mino and iKon’s Koo Jun-hoe also announced their groups’ comebacks, with Winner also preparing for their upcoming April and May concerts and iKon scheduled to release an album during the first half of the year.
