BLACKPINK performs ‘Shut Down’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
K-pop quartet BLACKPINK performed “Shut Down” on the latest episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
On Monday night’s episode, BLACKPINK and a team of backup dancers gave the first live performance of “Shut Down” since it was released alongside the girl group’s new album “Born Pink” last week.
“This is the reason that all the kids are excited. From this album titled ‘Born Pink,’ here’s the song ‘Shut Down’ by BLACKPINK,” he said while introducing the girl group.
Several BLACKPINK fans believe that Kimmel’s comment was condescending and also stereotyped K-pop as childish. Notably, BLACKPINK’s sophomore album comes with explicit warnings due to the lyrics of some of the B-sides such as “Tally” and “Hard To Love.”
The group’s appearance on Kimmel’s show is part of their U.S. promotions which kicked off as soon as “Born Pink” dropped, with the group making an appearance at their Spotify pop-up store in Los Angeles. Last month, they made their U.S. award show debut and made some historic wins at the 2022 MTV VMAs.
Also on their slate is their forthcoming world tour which will start next month in Seoul. The tour will span seven months in over 25 cities around the world, including several stops in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. YG Entertainment has claimed that the upcoming tour will be “the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group.”
