The apology: Eilish posted an apology note via Instagram Stories on June 21 stating that she is “appalled” and “embarrassed” for mouthing the words to a song when she was 13 or 14, according to Hypebae
  • “There’s a video edit going around of me when I was 13 or 14 where I mouthed a word from a song that at the time I didn’t know was a derogatory term used against members of the Asian community,” she wrote.
  • “This song was the only time I’d ever heard that word as it was never used around me by anyone in my family.” She stated that she was sorry and that “nothing excused that fact that it was hurtful.”
The “Asian” accent: In response to the allegations of Eilish mocking an Asian accent, she said that it was an edited clip of her “speaking in a silly gibberish made up voice” that she started as a kid and has done her whole life.
  •  She states that it is her “just goofing around” and that it is in no way “an imitation of anyone or any language, accent, or culture in the slightest.”
  • Eilish continued by saying that the way the videos are being labeled “absolutely breaks her heart” because she has worked hard to use her platform to “fight for inclusion, kindness, tolerance, equity and equality.”
