South Korean singer-songwriter BIBI released her prerelease single “Animal Farm” and its music video on her birthday on Tuesday.
The song is a precursor of her forthcoming debut studio album “Noir: Lowlife Princess,” which will be released next month. BIBI teased the album title last month in an interview with NextShark, saying, “If I were to define this album’s genre in one word, it would be ‘noir.’ You’ll see me dive into different concepts and styles in my upcoming album 100%.”
According to NME, the music video for “Animal Farm” introduces BIBI as a character named Oh Geum-ji. Her character was inspired by Lee Geum-ja from Park Chan-wook’s 2005 film “Lady Vengeance,” which the narrative of BIBI’s upcoming album is based off of.
In her new music video, which is more akin to a short film, BIBI slices her way through masked attendees at a lavish party using a katana. The video even has rolling credits at the end and a special thanks to “Kill Bill” by director Quentin Tarantino.
BIBI’s “Noir: Lowlife Princess” will feature 12 tracks in total. There will also be a webtoon and more music videos to expand on the narrative that the South Korean artist wishes to tell.
This new music project will be her first studio-length album since her 2019 debut. She has released two mini-albums so far: “The Manual For People Who Want To Love” in 2019 and “Life is a Bi…” in 2021. Rounding out her discography is a slew of singles, most notably her collaboration with label 88rising titled “The Weekend.”
Beyond music, BIBI is also diving into acting. She is set to star alongside “Vincenzo” actor Song Joong-ki in a noir film titled “Hwaran.”
