Actor Belle Mariano made history on Thursday as the first
While some Filipinos have won the award in the past, Mariano is the first Filipino woman to do so. She won for her lead role in the acclaimed TV series “He’s Into Her.”
Out of 175 nominated actors across Asia, only five in total received the Outstanding Asian Star award. The other winners this year were Alice Ko from Taiwan, Yusei Yagi from Japan, Wallace Chung from China and Krit Amnuaydechkorn from Thailand.
While on the red carpet, Mariano introduced herself in Korean in an effort to connect with her Korean fans.
Mariano also delivered an acceptance speech highlighting how proud she is to be Filipino.
Good evening, everyone. I am Belle Mariano, and I am a proud Filipino,” she said.
After thanking the cast and crew of her TV series, Mariano expressed gratitude to her supporters and her mother:
“Of course, the supporters as well, I wouldn’t be here without you guys. Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa inyo. Maraming maraming salamat. [My gratitude for you all is overflowing. Thank you so much.]”
“And lastly, to the woman who molded me to the woman I am today, my mother, thank you so much. I love you. Mahal ko kayong lahat at mabuhay tayong lahat. [I love you all and long live to everyone].”
Filipino netizens were overjoyed with the historic accomplishment, as evidenced by their reactions on Twitter.
