“Baby Shark,” that annoyingly catchy ditty that went insanely viral in 2016, is apparently back, and in a big way.
It has become so popular that it is now nearing the top 30 spot at the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song surpassed the latest hits from Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, and Ariana Grande when it made its Billboard Hot 100 debut this week at number 32. Over the last week, the song was streamed nearly 21 million times and downloaded 3,000 times on online music platforms.
It is worth noting that this is not a re-release nor a revival but the same exact song from Korean kids channel Pinkfong that took the internet by storm a few years ago.

The original video, which started the #BabySharkChallenge craze, now has over 2 billion views.
The recent surge in popularity in Western media is mostly due to popular celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres and LeBron James partaking in the challenge.

While intended for kids, Baby Shark’s lyrics are appealing enough to transcend its influence. The video’s comments section is filled with confused adults who are not quite sure how the words “Baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo” have got them mesmerized.

YouTube channel Pinkfong currently has over 14 million subscribers worldwide and is available in languages that include Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Thai and English.
