20th Century Studios have taken over Gloria Sanchez’s untitled sister comedy from Netflix, starring Awkwafina and Sandra Oh.
The sisters: Awkwafina and Oh will be playing estranged sisters who are forced to reunite and earn money together to pay off their mother’s gambling debts, reports Dateline.
- The two take off across the country in an attempt to win “Jeopardy” and take home the game show’s cash prize.
- While Netflix announced the film in 2020 in partnership with 20th Century Studios, the production studio acquired the rights to the new comedy after the streaming platform released it back into the market.
- The studio has decided on Jessica Yu as director and Jen D’Angelo as scriptwriter. Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell will produce the film alongside Maggie Haskins and Itay Reiss from Artists First. Alex Brown will be the executive producer.
- Awkwafina recently starred in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” She previously won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 2020 for her role in “The Farewell.” Oh, who is perhaps best known for her roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” and BBC’s “Killing Eve,” became the first Asian woman to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama in 2019 since 1981.
