Asian American Restaurant Employee Fatally Shot and Robbed in Georgia

An Asian American restaurant employee was fatally shot and then robbed by his attacker as he lay on the ground bleeding in Macon, Georgia.

A local officer found 38-year-old Jian Fang Wang with gunshot wounds while lying in the parking lot of Hot Wings Plus at 3497 Pio Nono Ave. at about 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday night, The Telegraph reports.

According to the initial investigation, the victim, who lived on Northside Drive in Macon, had just gotten in his car after closing the restaurant when he was attacked by the gunman.

Based on eyewitness accounts, the perpetrator, described as a Black man wearing dark clothing and a white top, emerged from behind the establishment and fired his gun at Wang’s car. As the victim lay dying, the man allegedly grabbed his money bag before fleeing.

A Bibb County sheriff’s investigator who was passing by the restaurant heard the victim’s final cries for help and immediately came to his aid.

The officer stated that while he was helping Wang, he heard some gunshots. He then saw the suspect driving off in a dark-colored car that looked like a 2016 or 2017 Toyota Camry or Corolla.

The sheriff’s department revealed that the suspect is between 23 to 30 years old, around 5 feet, 7 inches tall and approximately 170 pounds.

While the victim was immediately brought to Medical Center, Navicent Health, he was pronounced dead shortly after in the operating room. Wang reportedly left behind a wife and two children.

“He was shot many times,” Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley said. “He was just working and making money.”

Wang’s killing comes just days after a separate armed robbery homicide took the life of another Asian American earlier this week.

Customers found 42-year-old Brij Patel bleeding on the floor behind the counter of L&C Convenient Store on Hillcrest Boulevard on Monday. He was also gunned down and robbed by a still unidentified suspect.
