Even today, sexual assault continues to be a huge issue in our society and around the world. This is where a company like AR Wear steps into the spotlight. Based in New York, AR Wear is developing a line of garments that offers women “wearable protection” against instances of sexual assault. While the use of pepper spray, stun guns, or knowledge of martial arts offers some protection against assault, AR Wear believes that passive resistance through a tough article of clothing is the best way for women to fight off an attacker. With a wide range of bottom garments to choose from, they are designed to be difficult to remove by force, resistant to tearing and cutting, while still looking wearable and pretty stylish.

“We read studies reviewing the statistics of resisting assault, whether by forceful or non-forceful means. We learned that resistance increases the chance of avoiding a completed rape without making the victim more likely to be physically injured. We concluded that an item of clothing that creates an effective barrier layer can allow women and girls to passively resist an attacker, in addition to any other form of resistance they may be able to carry out at the time of an assault.”

AR Wear is still in the process of gaining financial support via crowd funding to produce their line of garments, but you can check out their line of wearable protection and their message on their indiegogo page. After looking at how awesome their garments look, the only questions we have is: Where’s the mens line!?
