Despite having been released less than three years ago, the latest installment of the Animal Crossing franchise has reportedly surpassed notable titles released more than 20 years ago.
The beloved Nintendo game, which kept millions of people company during the peak of COVID-19 lockdowns, beat classics such as “Pokémon Red/Green/Blue” (10.23 million copies) and “Pokémon Gold/Silver” (7.17 million copies).
Other games featured in Game Data Library’s tweet include “Super Mario Bros.” (6.81 million copies) and “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” (6.55 million copies). “Splatoon 3,” which was released just two months ago, has sold 5.11 million copies already. The game reportedly sold 3.45 million copies in the span of three days.
