What do you do when you’re sick, but don’t have the money, time or energy to go get a doctor’s note to excuse yourself from work?
One medical professional from Alberta, Canada stuck up for his sick patient, and the taxpayers who paid for his healthcare, with a seriously sassy doctor’s note. In the letter, the unnamed doctor questions the logic of his patient’s employer, writing in part:

“You feel his time and mine should be wasted by making him sit in the walk in clinic for hours and me spending time writing a sick note that I could be spending on people who genuinely need my attention.”

The note was written for teenager Kirby Reding, who works at a Pizza Hut in Alberta, and was posted to Reddit by his friend under the username Eaglel66. The note has since gone viral, having been viewed over 4 million times.
Strict sick-note polices as a strain on resources have been an issue of debate in Canada, according to Global News. The Ontario Medical Association advocates on its website:

“Employers should encourage workers to stay home when sick – not require sick notes which has a discouraging effect and forces patients into the doctor’s office when they are sick, which only encourages the spread of germs to those in the waiting room, who in some cases are more vulnerable.”

So the next time your employer asks for a sick note, help the cause and pass this article on.
