Chinese Actress Angelababy’s Husband Says His Wife’s Acting is ‘Bad’

During a recent candid interview, Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming, husband to actress Angelababy, admitted that his wife’s acting skill is somewhat below average.
“Baby is a very emotional person. If she can tap into that, she will certainly be a great actress,” Huang said in his interview referencing the circulating photo of his wife’s tearful reaction to his movie “Forever Young,” as translated by Shanghaiist via Medium.
The interviewer was taken aback by the 40-year-old actor’s frank appraisal of his wife’s acting skill. Clarifying what the actor said, the interviewer asked: “Are you saying that your wife’s acting skills are subpar? Isn’t that too harsh?”
Huang stood by his words and said that “bad is bad,” further adding: “This isn’t something to be ashamed of. We’ll just have to try hard.”
The actor also said that the 28-year-old actress is not a fan of his constructive feedback regarding her acting skill or the problem.
“But every time I’m serious, she doesn’t accept it easily and I have to coax her. But actually she knows, and she knows what her problem is. She’s also trying hard to change and learn.” Huang said, according to The Straits Times.
The actress, whose real name is Angela Yeung Wing, appeared in mostly rom-com movies in China for the last six years, and made her Hollywood debut in 2015’s “Hitman: Agent 47” film then followed up by the 2016 sci-fi movie “Independence Day: Resurgence.”
Many Chinese netizens seem to agree that her acting skill seems a bit subpar. Even a quick search using Baidu like “Angelababy acting” will show suggestions criticizing the actress’ skill without pulling any punches like “Angelababy acting super bad” and “Angelababy acting bad reasons,” to name a couple, as reported by The Straits Times.
Despite that, though, Angelababy remains as one of the most popular Chinese celebrities in 2017. In Forbes China’s list last year, the actress was placed in the #8 position with earning estimated to be at 200 million yuan ($31.24 million). While her husband, Huang, was ranked in 16 with 170 million yuan earning ($26.55 million).
While Huang did not hesitate to critic his own wife, he was also very critical about his own acting skill.
“I’m not the talented type, I’m the hardworking type, my only talent is hard work,” the actor said.
