Retired Japanese Teacher Lets Grandson Turn Him into the ‘Hippest Grandpa’ on Instagram

An 84-year-old former teacher has become an online sensation as “Japan’s hippest grandpa” with his stylish images worthy of magazine covers and

Known online simply as “Silver Tetsuya,” the dapper octogenarian from the rural mountains of Akita Prefecture has captured hearts with photos taken by his beloved grandson.

Twitter user @yeah70 dressed his grandpa in fashionable outfits, took shots of him in some “model poses,” and then uploaded the dazzling photos online.

After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback on social media, @yeah70 decided to shoot more photos of his grandfather and create an Instagram account for him.

Silver Tetsuya’s Instagram account now has over 31,000 followers, which the elderly model refer to as “students.”

Impressed netizens have taken to the images’ comment section to shower the grandfather-grandson tandem with much-deserved praise, Soranews24 reports.

“This…is too cool,” a follower commented.

“At 84, he’s a late-blooming model of exploding popularity,” wrote another.

“It’s not just the high fashion, but also the skill of the photographer and the subject,” noted a netizen.

“The stylish clothes in contrast to the countryside scenery really highlights your grandfather’s vigor. I love it so much that I’d also like to see you dress other grandfathers and grandmothers and then release a photo collection,” another commenter shared.

With their popularity, it is just a matter of time until fashion brands and ad agencies take notice and give them the break they deserve.

The photos occasionally come with fascinating phrases or anecdotes such as, “I’m part of the generation which thought that having your picture taken would steal your soul.”
