You Can Now Face Dire Consequences For Not Tipping Your Uber Driver

Last night, as part of a landmark $100 million settlement, Uber now allows drivers to ask their customers for tips. Those who don’t tip could potentially get a lower passenger rating, which could affect whether drivers accept their trip requests in the future.

Since there’s no way to add tip within the app, Uber passengers would most likely have to carry cash from now on.

Pior to this settlement, Uber discouraged tipping in their terms and conditions for drivers. In fact, the answer to “do I need to tip my driver?” is still the following on the Uber site’s FAQ section.

That’s probably going to change now.
