A pervy Singaporean IT promoter was jailed for 15 weeks after being charged with 33 counts of “insulting the modesty of a woman” after taking upskirt videos of 33 women and then cataloging them according to their “beauty.”
Ryan Er Wei Kiat, 28, rated each video between one to four stars, with four being the prettiest, reports Straits Times. The videos were all found organized in folders at his personal computer. At times he would attempt to capture the faces of his victims when he could, court records revealed.
The serial upskirt paparazzi was already caught in the act at a railway station last year but was able to escape. He was later tracked down by authorities a month later.
After pleading guilty to the 10 of 33 charges filed against him, Er was jailed for 15 weeks instead of a full penalty which would’ve landed him one year in jail per count of his charge. He finished his sentence on Tuesday.
A woman was reportedly going up an escalator at Somerset MRT Station at about 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 24, 2015, when she felt a touch on the back of her right thigh. The victim turned around and saw Er standing behind her and pulling his hand from under her dress while holding a smartphone.
When she demanded that the man show her the contents of his phone, he refused and managed to escape. Using the station’s CCTV footage, the local police were able to find and arrest him a month after the incident.
The capture also led to the discovery of Er’s vast upskirt video collection on his computer. It was found that he went on an underwear-snapping spree between July and September 2015.
In addition to his confession, Er also submitted an apology letter to the court, which he had written to his victims.
Er’s lawyer, Amarjit Singh Sidhu, explained that his client had acted out of impulse due to stress from school and also cited the loss of the man’s father in 2008.
