Paramount+ recently dropped the official trailer for the highly anticipated film “Love in Taipei.”
About the movie: Based on Abigail Hing Wen’s bestselling novel “Loveboat, Taipei,” the film stars Ashley Liao — known for her roles in “Physical” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” — as Ever Wong, a young American woman whose summer takes an unexpected turn when her parents enroll her in a cultural immersion program in Taipei.
During the program, Ever catches the attention of two charming but vastly different boys. Amid a whirlwind of emotions, Ever also discovers the courage to pursue her true passion — dancing — and break free from her parents’ high expectations.
Cast and crew: Aside from Liao, Ross Butler, known for his roles in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and the “To All the Boys” franchise, plays Rick Woo, a standout sports and academic prodigy. Nico Hiraga, recognized for his appearances in “Booksmart” and “Moxie,” plays Xavier Yeh, a carefree artist and heir to a multinational tech empire. Chelsea Zhang, seen in “Daybreak and “Titans,” plays Sophie, Ever’s close friend whom she meets during the Loveboat experience. Cindy Cheung, known for her work in “The Sinner and “13 Reasons Why,” plays Ever’s Aunt Shu.
“Love in Taipei” is produced by Matt Kaplan for Ace Entertainment, with Abigail Hing Wen also serving as an executive producer. The screenplay is adapted by Charlie Oh and Mackenzie Dohr.
Other details: “Love in Taipei” will premiere in the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 10 exclusively on Paramount+.
“Loveboat, Taipei” is the first book in the “Loveboat, Taipei” trilogy, which also includes “Loveboat Reunion” and “Loveboat Forever.” A potential sequel to “Love in Taipei” has yet to be announced.
