In her latest travel vlog, Filipino actor and singer Sharon Cuneta shares the moment she was “turned away” from an Hermès branch in South Korea.
In the vlog uploaded to her YouTube channel on Friday, Cuneta goes on a trip with her family in Seoul. She can be seen trying Korean food, buying K-pop merchandise and going on a shopping spree in Seoul’s fashion hubs.
The Filipino megastar shared that she wanted to purchase a belt from the French luxury brand Hermes; however, upon arrival at the store, she was not allowed to enter.
“I just went here to buy a belt from Hermès. But I wasn’t allowed to go in,” Cuneta  says in her vlog.
Cuneta then goes on to shop at Louis Vuitton, where she is seen being provided with welcoming service and given flowers and a bottle of champagne.
Along with her companions, the actor eventually leaves the store with numerous Louis Vuitton shopping bags and passes by Hermès again.
“No more,” Cuneta tells the Hermès salesman who previously barred her from entering the store. “Look, I buy everything.”
The actor also inserted the iconic “big mistake” scene from the 1990 film “Pretty Woman,” wherein protagonist Vivian Ward, portrayed by Julia Roberts, tells off a saleswoman who denied her service because of how she was dressed.
The vlog went viral due to the Hermès incident, with fans expressing anger toward the luxury store and amusement at the actor’s response.
However, in an Instagram post, Cuneta clarified to fans the reason she was turned away by the salesman was due to COVID-19 protocols.
“Don’t feel bad about Hermès not letting me in!” Cuneta wrote. “Lots, if not all name-brand stores even in the U.S. allow a certain number of people in at a time – sometimes 10 [only], while the others wait in line outside of the store. Lots also ask you to make an appointment. It is part of their COVID-19 safety measures so it is OK.”
Cuneta, who is often referred to as a “megastar,” is one of the highest-earning women in the Philippine entertainment industry. The 56-year-old actor started acting at the age of 15 and has since starred in more than 50 films and recorded over 40 albums.
