A tragic video featuring a teenager’s death at an amusement park in China is now making the rounds on social media.
In the clip, a 13-year-old girl is shown being flung out of a fast-turning swing ride at the Zhaohua Park in Fengdu County on Friday afternoon, Associated Press reported.
The girl is shown slipping out from her seat, causing her to dangle for few seconds when the ride flipped upside down. The victim was then thrown onto the ride’s metal railings before hitting the ground.
Bystanders can be heard screaming in the background as the tragedy occurred.
She was immediately sent to a nearby hospital after rescue responders failed to revive her using cardiopulmonary resuscitation. She was pronounced dead on arrival at 2:20 pm.
According to the local authorities’ initial investigation, the ride had malfunctioned and the girl’s seat belt had broken. It was also reported that the passenger safety bar did not fit tightly enough.
The 29-acre theme park, located near the city of Chongqing, has a wide variety of rides and is a popular destination for local tourists.
According to The West China Metropolis Daily (via the BBC), the management of the amusement park had reached a compensation agreement with girl’s family over the death of their only child amounting to 870,000 yuan (almost $127,000).
Chongqing authorities have reportedly been ordered to suspend all the park’s big rides for a series of inspections. Other companies operating the same ride were also told to stop using the ride and advised to contact its manufacturer in Chengdu city.
