Aziz Ansari to make film directorial debut with ‘Good Fortune’ starring Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen
Actor and comedian Aziz Ansari is set to make his feature directorial debut with the comedy film “Good Fortune,” starring Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen.
Lionsgate has secured the rights to the film, which will be written and directed by Ansari himself. Exact details about the film’s plot and characters are under wraps.
Joe Drake, the chair of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, expressed excitement about the project.
We have indeed found good fortune with this film. We love the script and believe strongly in Aziz as both a performer and a director. And when you add in Seth and Keanu — two incredible world-class talents — toplining alongside Aziz, this has the potential to be a very special film for us. We moved quickly to land this project once it was available.
“Good Fortune” is Ansari’s second directorial debut attempt. His first project, “Being Mortal,” was suspended following complaints about actor Bill Murray‘s onset behavior.
The film will be produced by Ansari’s “Master of None” colleague Alan Yang, alongside Anthony Katagas. Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humprey from Lionsgate will oversee the project.
Reeves and Rogen have both been attached to other Lionsgate films this year. Reeves starred in “John Wick: Chapter 4” and will star in the upcoming spin-off movie “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas. Rogen’s production company Point Grey is behind Adele Lim’s directorial debut film “Joy Ride.”
