Uber Made The Douchiest Decision Possible During the Sydney Hostage Situation

During the hostage situation in downtown Sydney, Australia today, many innocent bystanders tried to flee the scene when heavily armed police stormed the cafe where hostages were held. Because all public transportation was halted in the area, Uber was one of the only options left available for those wanting to escape the dangerous situation.

In the midst of all the chaos, Uber thought it would be a great idea to turn on surge pricing.

Their reasoning?

After suffering backlash, Uber eventually apologized and offered refunds to anyone who paid the surge fees of $100-$200 in the area of the hostage situation.
