NBA beat reporter on leave after Warriors fans unearth his past racist, transphobic tweets

  • Golden State Warriors beat reporter Mark Haynes temporarily deactivated his official Twitter account after his past homophobic, sexist and racist tweets went viral.
  • Haynes upset Warriors fans after saying Steph Curry was a “frontrunner” – someone who only celebrates and performs well when their team is in the lead – during a playoff game against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.
  • Enraged Twitter users uncovered several of the reporter’s past offensive tweets, some of which targeted members of the Asian community.
  • ClutchPoints, one of the reporter’s employers, issued a statement on Monday to announce that he has been put on indefinite leave.
  • Following ClutchPoints’ statement, Haynes reactivated his Twitter account and issued an apology.

Mark Haynes, a beat reporter covering the Golden State Warriors, was put on indefinite leave after a group of angry fans unearthed his past homophobic, sexist and racist tweets.

Haynes caught the ire of Warriors fans after he answered a question about Warriors point guard Steph Curry being a “frontrunner” – someone who only celebrates and performs well when their team is in the lead – during the recent Western Conference Finals Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night, which saw the Warriors win with a final score of 126 to 117.

Golden State Warriors’ new entertainment division to release single from Got7’s BamBam, ‘Linsanity’ documentary

  • K-pop artist BamBam of Got7 will release a new solo single on Friday called “Wheels Up” to help launch the Golden State Warriors’ new entertainment division.
  • BamBam made history as the first K-pop artist to perform at an NBA halftime show for the Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers game on April 7th.
  • Led by the basketball team’s top legal officer, David Kelly, Golden State Entertainment will focus on everything ranging from music to film projects.
  • One of those film projects will include a documentary from Frank Chi called “38 at the Garden,” focusing on the “Linsanity” impact of former Golden State Warriors player Jeremy Lin during his 2011-2012 season with the New York Knicks.

The NBA’s Golden State Warriors announced the launch of their entertainment division Golden State Entertainment (GSE) on Monday by sharing their first project – a new solo single from Got7’s BamBam. 

Oakland-based rapper and singer Mayzin, who is signed as a lead artist for GSE, will also feature on the upcoming BamBam single slated for release this Friday titled “Wheels Up.”
