Studio Ghibli is Making 2 New Films in 2020

Studio Ghibli has welcomed the new year with a bang after it announced two new movies that are being produced in 2020.
The iconic Japanese animation studio made the announcement on Jan. 1 as part of its annual New Year’s message, according to I-D Vice.
In the announcement, the studio went on to recap news about the first Studio Ghibli theme park that is set to open its doors in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, Japan in 2022, and the kabuki play adaptation of the “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.”
Studio Ghibli also addressed the natural disasters which hit the country in 2019 in the announcement.
“The country of Japan saw many natural disasters such as torrential rain and typhoons, and it pains us to think of the many people who are still living with the aftermath of those terrible events,” the studio wrote, as translated by Bored Panda.
“We offer our sincere condolences to those affected, as well as a prayer for speedy recovery to their normal lifestyles.”
It also went on to talk about 2020 being the year of the rat, and how they “produce numerous offspring, and because of this they are seen as a symbol of prosperity of descendants, as well as the servants of the god of the harvest.”
“We hope this will be a year in which the stagnant mood of society is revitalized, and one which provides great hope for the future.”
And finally, the studio confirmed that they are working on two undisclosed titles this year.
Although Studio Ghibli has yet to announce the title of its first film, the studio has already released some details regarding the second movie, titled “Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru Ka? (How Do You Live?).”
The coming-of-age adventure fantasy film, which is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Genzaburō Yoshino, will follow the story of 15-year-old Koperu and his uncle.
The movie was originally planned to be released before the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but Hayao Miyazaki’s long-time producer, Toshio Suzuki, estimates the film will come out sometime between 2021 and 2022.
