Hello, everyone!
The San Jose community is gathering to honor Norman Mineta, the first Asian American to hold a Cabinet position.
Although Mineta had a prolific career in politics encompassing various political positions, most people from his community remember him as a San Jose native who uplifted his community. He served as San Jose mayor from 1971 to 1975, was the secretary of Commerce during the Clinton administration in the 1990s and the Transportation secretary under President Bush from 2001 to 2006.
Mineta died on May 3 at the age of 90. His cremated remains will lie at City Hall for his formal memorial service for community members to pay their respects at the rotunda.
The funeral procession made its way through Japantown, where Mineta grew up, and ended with tributes from his mentees, friends and family.
