Washington middle school student Rebecca Wu, 12, has won the national Doodle for Google competition with her art piece titled “My Sweetest Memories.”
The winning artwork: “My Sweetest Memories” is an homage to Wu’s sisters, 6-year-old Anna and 4-year-old Esther.
“We help to inspire each other and to help each other grow like the vines and flowers in my picture,” the middle schooler shared in her artwork’s description. “I am never lonely with them and they can cheer me up.”
“I have learned to be a little bit more patient with them, and they have had an enormous impact on me,” Wu added. “I am grateful for them and all that they have done for me.”
With Wu at the center, the sisters are each holding a cup of steaming hot chocolate, a fond memory for Wu. In the background of the artwork, a large rainbow decorates the sky, symbolizing one of the first things Wu taught her sisters to draw. In addition, the sisters are surrounded by flowers and vines that shape into the word “Google.”

About Wu: Wu is not a stranger to the art world. The sixth grader runs her own website, Brain Rain Studio, where she shares her various creative outlets, including stop-motion movies, violin performances, comics, creative writing and artwork.
Wu has been working with Bellevue’s Studios Fine Arts director Sunyoung Kwon since the age of 7.
About the competition: The annual Doodle for Google competition is available to students in grades K-12 across the U.S. states and territories. Students are tasked with creating a doodle that adheres to the theme, with this year’s theme being: “I am grateful for…”

As winner of the competition, Wu will not only have her art piece featured on Google but also will receive a $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for her school or non-profit organization, Google hardware and additional branded prizes.
