Peyton Elizabeth Lee, the 16-year-old star of Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack” series, will take on the lead role of “Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.,” a Disney+ reboot of the classic ABC series “Doogie Howser, M.D.”
“Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.” follows the story of Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (played by Lee) in modern-day Hawaii, according to Deadline.
Doogie’s parents — a spitfire Irish mother and a Hawaiian “Local Boy” father — will guide Doogie as she tries to juggle her medical career and life as a teenager.
Kourtney Kang (producer of “How I Met Your Mother” and “Fresh Off The Boat”), Jake Kasdan (producer of “Zero Effect” and the latest “Jumanji” films) and Melvin Mar (executive producer of “Fresh Off the Boat” and “Lucky Grandma”) will executive produce the series alongside Dayna Bochco and Jesse Bochco, the widow and son of the late “Doogie Howser, M.D.” co-creator Steven Bochco.
Lee gained fame for playing Disney Channel’s Andi Mack from 2017 to 2019. Her latest appearance was in the Disney+ original film “Secret Society of Second-Born Royals.”
“Doogie Kameāloha, M.D.” will reimagine the Neil Patrick Harris-led series “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” which ran from 1989 to 1993. The show was created by Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley.
