Pixar’s hit song “Nobody Like U” from “Turning Red,” written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, did not make the cut for the Oscars shortlist for Best Original Song.
On Wednesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the fifteen songs advancing in the Original Song category for the 95th Academy Awards in March 2023.
The 389 members of Oscar’s music branch voted to determine the 15 nominees from a list of 81 eligible songs in the category.
Winners of Best Original Song at the 94th Academy Awards for “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from “Encanto,” pop star siblings Eilish and Finneas were widely predicted to be shortlisted for their “Turning Red” contribution, performed by the movie’s fictional boy band, 4*Town.
“This Is A Life” by Son Lux from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” by The Weeknd from “Avatar: The Way of Water” are among the 15 nominees shortlisted in the original song category.
There will be a second voting round beginning on Jan. 12, and results will be unveiled on Jan. 24. The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12.
